Proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping during the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2021, the Global Development Initiative (GDI) has served as a vital framework for addressing global development challenges over the past five years.
Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and sluggish economic recovery, the GDI provides a people-centered approach focused on key principles including innovation, priority development, and harmony between humanity and nature.
The initiative’s global partnership network has grown to include support from over 130 countries and international organizations, with more than 88 nations joining the Group of Friends of the GDI.
Through funding mechanisms like the China-UN Peace and Development Fund, over $23 billion has been mobilized to support more than 2,000 cooperation projects and provide professional training for over 200,000 people globally.
Practical cooperation projects—ranging from a Juncao technology demonstration farm boosting food security in Nigeria to agricultural training in Grenada and the Monsoon Wind Power Project in Laos—have delivered tangible benefits to ordinary people in over 120 countries.
Looking forward, China remains committed to working alongside the international community to deepen global development cooperation, improve global governance, and foster shared prosperity for humanity.
