China’s photovoltaic (PV) industry is seeking new growth opportunities through technological innovation, global expansion, and diversified applications amid increasing competition and falling export prices.
During the 2021–2025 period, China’s PV manufacturing industry recorded an annual output value exceeding 1 trillion yuan and exported products to more than 200 countries and regions. However, oversupply and price competition have reduced profitability across the sector.
Industry experts say the removal of export tax rebates for PV products in 2026 is encouraging companies to focus on higher-value products, brand development, and advanced technologies rather than competing solely on price.
Leading firms are expanding overseas through localized production, integrated energy solutions, and full-service project delivery. At the same time, manufacturers are adopting digital and AI-driven technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
New “PV-plus” projects, including fishery-solar farms and solar-powered agricultural and tourism initiatives, are also creating fresh revenue streams. Industry leaders believe innovation, quality upgrades, and new application scenarios will drive the next phase of growth for China’s solar sector.
