China is strengthening its position in the global matcha market through advanced production, technological innovation, and strict quality standards. In 2025, the country produced more than 12,000 tons of matcha, accounting for nearly 70 percent of global output.

Major production hubs in Zhejiang and Guizhou have expanded exports by investing in smart manufacturing, precision processing, and research. Improved production technologies and digital farming have enabled Chinese producers to supply premium matcha to food and beverage companies in more than 50 countries and regions.

The industry is also benefiting from standardized quality control, patent-backed innovation, and organic cultivation, helping Chinese matcha meet international food safety requirements. Combined with growing tea tourism and cultural promotion, China’s matcha sector is boosting exports while strengthening the country’s influence in the global tea industry.
