Shenzhen has converted the former Pinghunan railway freight yard into a modern integrated logistics hub by building smart warehouses above an active railway line. The innovative project combines rail operations with advanced logistics facilities, maximizing land use while preserving existing railway infrastructure.

The hub uses digital technologies, including Building Information Modeling (BIM), intelligent sorting systems, and automated warehousing, to improve construction accuracy and operational efficiency. The railway section became operational in late 2025, linking the facility to China’s national rail network.

Once fully completed, the Pinghunan Integrated Logistics Hub is expected to handle about 1.4 million TEUs of sea-rail cargo annually, reduce logistics costs, improve transport efficiency, and strengthen Shenzhen’s position as a major global logistics center.
