The 2026 World AI Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai highlights the role of artificial intelligence in driving innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development while promoting global cooperation on AI governance.
Under the theme “Intelligent Partners, Co-create the Future,” the conference focuses on ensuring AI benefits all through responsible development, stronger international collaboration and inclusive governance.
China continues to advocate a people-centered approach to AI, calling for openness, shared development and opposition to technological monopolies. It has promoted initiatives including the Global AI Governance Initiative and AI capacity-building programs to help developing countries access AI technologies and bridge the global digital divide.
The conference underscores the need for countries to strengthen multilateral cooperation, improve AI governance, and ensure emerging technologies are developed responsibly to create a more inclusive and shared future for humanity.
