China has achieved a breakthrough in wireless power transmission, moving closer to building a space-based solar power station.

Researchers at Xidian University successfully demonstrated the world’s first system capable of wirelessly transmitting microwave power from one transmitter to multiple moving targets.

The technology could one day allow orbital solar power stations to supply clean energy to spacecraft and ground equipment. The achievement strengthens China’s leadership in space-based solar power research, with plans to launch a megawatt-class experimental orbital power station by 2030 and a commercial gigawatt-class system by 2050.
