Several multinational automakers are extending long-term partnerships with Chinese companies, underscoring their continued confidence in China’s automotive market and industrial ecosystem.

General Motors and SAIC Motor recently agreed to extend their joint venture cooperation for another 20 years to 2047. Honda and GAC Group, as well as Volkswagen and SAIC Motor, have also renewed their joint venture agreements.

The renewed partnerships reflect a broader shift from traditional technology transfer toward joint innovation, research and development, and shared capabilities. China’s large auto market, complete industrial supply chains and growing innovation capacity continue to make it an important base for global automakers.

As the industry moves rapidly toward electrification and intelligent vehicles, multinational companies are increasingly relying on Chinese teams for product development, technology planning and global projects.

These long-term commitments also highlight the importance of open and integrated industrial supply chains. For multinational automakers, deeper cooperation with China offers access to market opportunities, innovation resources and a stable environment for long-term growth.

The continued expansion of China-foreign automotive cooperation is expected to create new opportunities for both sides while contributing to the transformation of the global auto industry.
