Yangtze Optical Fiber and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company (YOFC) in Wuhan, central China’s Hubei Province, is using artificial intelligence (AI) to transform optical Fiber manufacturing.

At the company’s smart factory, optical Fiber is drawn at speeds of up to 3,500 meters per minute. AI systems monitor production conditions in real time and automatically adjust processes to reduce Fiber breakage, waste, and production delays.

AI is now used in more than 80 percent of the factory’s operations, supporting the production of hundreds of optical Fiber and cable products. The facility is among China’s first 15 flagship smart factories recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

YOFC has developed about 20 AI application scenarios, including robotic handling of fragile Fiber preforms and intelligent carbon-footprint monitoring. The company has also invested heavily in research and development, accumulating more than 1,300 patents.

As demand for high-speed data transmission grows with the development of AI, YOFC is also developing advanced products such as hollow-core optical Fiber, which is designed to support faster and higher-capacity data transmission.
