China’s shipbuilding industry is strengthening its position in the global market, with shipbuilding output, new orders and order backlogs rising sharply in the first quarter of 2026.
China accounted for 57.3 percent of global ship completions, 84.9 percent of new orders and 69.8 percent of the global order backlog, reflecting strong international demand and growing competitiveness.
The industry has advanced rapidly in high-end vessels, including LNG carriers, large cruise ships, aircraft carriers and specialized marine equipment. Chinese shipyards are also adopting robotics, digital systems, artificial intelligence and green technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
With strong industrial supply chains and growing technological capabilities, China is well positioned to benefit from the global shipping industry’s green transition while strengthening its long-term competitiveness.
