China’s economy maintained strong growth momentum in the first half of 2026, with four key indicators reflecting its resilience, innovation and expanding global engagement.

By the end of May, the country’s installed power generation capacity surpassed 4 billion kilowatts, supported by a world-leading renewable energy industry and a stable energy supply system.

China’s artificial intelligence sector also recorded rapid growth, with average daily AI token usage reaching hundreds of trillions, driven by expanding applications and strong growth in high-tech and equipment manufacturing.

Consumer spending remained robust, as sales generated through government-backed trade-in programs exceeded 1 trillion yuan, boosting demand for smart devices, travel, cultural activities and other services.

Meanwhile, China-Africa trade surpassed 1 trillion yuan for the first time during the first five months of the year, reflecting stronger economic cooperation, expanded zero-tariff policies and China’s continued commitment to high-level opening-up and international trade.
