Giant Panda Conservation Drives Ecotourism and Economic Growth in Sichuan’s Baoxing

Baoxing County in southwest China’s Sichuan Province is leveraging giant panda conservation to promote biodiversity protection, ecotourism, and sustainable economic development.

As a key part of the Giant Panda National Park, more than 81 percent of Baoxing’s land area is under ecological protection. Local authorities have restored panda habitats, built ecological corridors, and strengthened wildlife monitoring, benefiting not only giant pandas but also numerous rare plant and animal species.

The county has also developed nature education and eco-tourism programs, attracting visitors to panda-themed attractions and environmental learning centers. These initiatives have created new jobs for residents, including tourism, education, and hospitality positions.

In 2025, Baoxing welcomed 4.63 million tourists and generated over 4.08 billion yuan in tourism revenue, highlighting how ecological conservation has become a major driver of local economic growth and rural revitalization.
