A High-level Meeting on the Global Development Initiative (GDI) was recently held in Beijing, calling for stronger international cooperation to address global development challenges and advance the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Since its launch in 2021, the GDI has gained broad international support, with more than 130 countries and international organizations participating in related cooperation. The Group of Friends of the GDI has also expanded to 88 countries.
China has mobilized more than $23 billion through development funds to support over 1,800 livelihood projects and trained more than 200,000 professionals from developing countries. Projects involving agricultural technology, satellite data and disaster early-warning systems have benefited people in more than 120 countries. China has also expanded zero-tariff treatment for imports from 53 African countries and joined 28 countries in establishing the World AI Cooperation Organization to promote wider access to emerging technologies.
The meeting reaffirmed calls for countries to pool resources, strengthen sustainable development cooperation and promote inclusive growth, with the GDI serving as a platform for advancing common development and shared prosperity.
