Hangzhou has introduced biomimetic robotic fish to strengthen ecological protection and public safety at West Lake. Designed to resemble lemon sharks, the robotic fish are equipped with underwater cameras and sensors to monitor water quality, track biodiversity, and support patrol operations.

Developed jointly by local police and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the robotic fish can operate underwater for up to four hours, avoid obstacles, and patrol with minimal disturbance to aquatic life. They also assist in retrieving lost items from the lake and work alongside drones, robotic dogs, and unmanned vehicles as part of an integrated smart security network.
