Three hydrological stations along the Yellow River highlight China’s progress in protecting its second-longest river through advanced monitoring, ecological restoration, and unified water management.

At the river’s source in Qinghai, modern radar and BeiDou-powered systems have improved water monitoring, while stronger conservation measures have increased water retention across the Sanjiangyuan region. The Yellow River has now maintained continuous flow for 27 consecutive years.

In Shaanxi and Shandong, smart technologies including drones, digital monitoring, and sediment sensors are enhancing flood forecasting and river management. Improved ecological protection has also expanded wetlands, boosted biodiversity, and strengthened the river basin’s overall environmental health.
