Jingdezhen Attracts Global Artists with Rich Ceramic Heritage and Creative Opportunities

Jingdezhen, China’s renowned “millennium porcelain capital,” is attracting thousands of international artists and craftsmen drawn by its rich ceramic heritage, thriving creative industry, and inclusive environment.

The city, which has nominated its handmade porcelain heritage sites for UNESCO World Heritage status, is home to about 5,000 foreign residents and has become a global center for ceramic art and cultural exchange.

Artists from countries including France and Australia have established studios in Jingdezhen, citing its strong traditions of craftsmanship, supportive community, and vibrant artistic atmosphere. The city has also transformed former industrial sites into creative spaces, museums, and cultural hubs, fostering innovation while preserving its historical legacy.

Jingdezhen’s ceramic industry now generates more than 100 billion yuan ($14.77 billion) annually and supports thousands of workshops, brands, and artisans. Through cultural openness, heritage preservation, and international cooperation, the city continues to strengthen its reputation as a global destination for ceramic art and cross-cultural exchange.
