High-quality Belt and Road cooperation between China and Egypt continues to deliver tangible results, advancing Egypt’s infrastructure, boosting local manufacturing capabilities, and cultivating technical talent.

In the desert 50 kilometers east of Cairo, China State Construction Engineering Corporation is constructing the Central Business District (CBD) for Egypt’s new administrative capital. Anchored by the 385.8-meter Iconic Tower—the tallest building in Africa—the complex features 20 major towers, including office, residential, and hotel facilities. Through structured mentorship programs on-site, Chinese engineers are training local technicians to independently manage complex, super-tall building projects.

Transportation infrastructure has similarly seen major gains via the 10th of Ramadan Railway, Egypt’s first electrified inter-city light rail built by a CREC and AVIC International consortium. Since its first phases opened in 2022, the 70-kilometer transit line has safely operated for roughly 1,500 days and carried over 22 million passengers, cutting commute times significantly for 5 million local residents. Chinese firms have also trained approximately 600 Egyptian specialists in dispatch, maintenance, and station management to support the network’s long-term operation.

Industrial localization is expanding through projects like the Haier Egypt Ecological Park in 10th of Ramadan City. Spanning 200,000 square meters, Phase I launched in May 2024 with a annual capacity of one million home appliances, helping Haier capture top market shares across Egypt while achieving a localized manufacturing rate over 60 percent. With Phase II expansion under way to raise total annual capacity beyond 1.5 million units, bilateral cooperation continues to strengthen Egypt’s capacity for independent, modern economic development.
