The 20th Foshan Xijia Football League concluded at Yunxiu Mountain Stadium in Sanshui District, drawing 20,000 live spectators for its final match, where team Tanwan Youxi defeated Budweiser-Huaxing.
Originating decades ago, when local factory workers turned empty morning markets into afternoon pitches, the 45-day amateur tournament featured 1,056 players across 48 teams representing all 11 cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Beyond the pitch, the tournament generated significant economic momentum through a “ticket-stub economy” that provided fans with discounts across 1,400 local businesses, attracting 2 million total visits and driving over 250 million yuan ($37.25 million) in regional consumption.
