Two German writers, Volker Haering and Christian Y. Schmidt, cycled nearly 7,000 kilometers from Ruijin to Yan’an to retrace the historical route of the Long March.

The journey tested their physical endurance across high-altitude mountain passes like Jiajin Mountain and inspired their book published in Germany in October 2025.

Along the way, they experienced warm hospitality from local residents and noted China’s rapid infrastructure development, such as expanding high-speed rail networks and digital technologies.
