12th China General Chamber of Commerce Basketball League Kicks Off in Abuja

The 12th China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria Basketball League, popularly known as the “Shantui–Turbo Machinery Cup,” commenced in Abuja on Sunday, September 21st, with a colourful opening ceremony at the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Basketball Arena, Airport Road.

The ceremony was graced by representatives of Chinese enterprises in Nigeria and key dignitaries, including Wang Yingqi, Minister-Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria; Yang Jianxing, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy and Director of the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria; and Cui Guangzhen, Secretary-General of the China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria. They delivered remarks emphasising the value of sports in fostering unity, cultural exchange, and stronger community ties among Chinese enterprises in Nigeria.

Hosted by the China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria, organised by China Geo-Engineering Corporation Nigeria Ltd., and co-sponsored by Shantui -Turbo Machinery, the one-week tournament has brought together eight Chinese enterprise teams to showcase their skill, teamwork, and corporate spirit.

The opening day lived up to expectations with a thrilling contest between the Mutual Commitment Company and China Harbour Engineering Team. The MCC edged out their opponents with a victory. The match kept spectators on edge as both sides displayed remarkable energy, fast breaks, and sharp shooting before MCC sealed the win in the closing minutes.

The atmosphere throughout the day reflected the tournament’s guiding values of healthy exercise, cultural exchange, and friendship. Spectators, families, and friends were encouraged to come out and cheer. The tournament continues through September 28, with more high-energy matchups ahead.

Organisers highlighted that the event showcases athletic talent and strengthens bonds among employees of Chinese companies in Nigeria, reflecting the spirit of unity, teamwork, and positivity.

True to the chamber’s motto, the competition remains “not about winning, but about friendship.”
