Driverless minibuses in Guiyang, southwest China’s Guizhou Province, are being transformed into mobile libraries, giving passengers free access to digital books and audiobooks during their journeys.

The initiative, launched by the Guizhou Provincial Library, allows commuters and tourists to scan QR codes inside the autonomous vehicles to explore more than one million e-books, 1.5 million audiobook episodes, and thousands of video lectures. AI-powered recommendations and children’s reading content make the service accessible to readers of all ages.

Operating on a 20-minute route linking museums, libraries, business districts, and tourist attractions, the minibuses combine smart transportation with public cultural services. The project is part of Guizhou’s broader effort to promote reading through digital libraries, QR-code access, and smart library services across urban and rural communities.
