African cultural heritage will take centre stage in Abuja on October 18 as fashion designers and models prepare to showcase contemporary creations inspired by the continent’s traditions and cultural identities.
The event, Fashion Fables Runway Africa (FFRA), will take place at The Blanc Grande in Abuja’s Central Area under the theme “Rebirth of the Ancestors: Reviving Africa’s True Story.”
The fashion show will bring together designers, models, artists and creative entrepreneurs, with a focus on cultural storytelling, inclusion and sustainable fashion.
Organizers say this year’s program will feature plus-size models to promote greater representation in the fashion industry, alongside cake-inspired runway designs and a marketplace for businesses and creative entrepreneurs.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the event’s convener, Obinna Kwame Temple Obi, said the initiative was intended to reconnect audiences with African heritage through fashion and creative expression.
“This edition represents something different. It is about rediscovering who we are, reconnecting with our creativity, and using fashion as a vehicle to tell stories, inspire people, and create opportunities,” he said.
Obi said the event would highlight African craftsmanship and traditions while encouraging designers to reinterpret cultural influences for contemporary audiences.
A returning model known as Nye is also expected to participate, with organizers describing her appearance as part of the event’s emphasis on resilience, hope and courage.
Stephanie Nnadi, chief executive officer of One Percent International Management, said the event would extend beyond conventional fashion presentations to include environmental awareness and creative storytelling.
“At the heart of this event are the principles of inclusion, sustainability, green initiatives, upcycling and recycling,” she said.
Nnadi described participating models as “dream walkers”, saying they would help communicate the cultural influences and stories behind the designs presented on the runway.
According to the organizers, the initiative also seeks to provide opportunities for emerging designers and creative entrepreneurs to showcase their work and build professional connections.
Fashion Fables Runway Africa is a reimagined edition of Fashion Fusion Africa, an earlier event organized by the same team, with a renewed emphasis on African heritage and contemporary design.
The event’s marketplace is scheduled to open at 2 p.m., while the runway show is expected to begin at 7 p.m.
