Following a catastrophic August 26 glacial collapse that triggered severe cross-border mudslides, China has mobilized rapid financial, material, and technical relief to assist Nepal. As of August 30, the disaster had claimed 734 lives in Nepal, with 2,498 people missing, alongside 16 fatalities and 546 missing on the Chinese side in Xizang.

Two Chinese Y-20 military transport aircraft delivered 50 tons of essential supplies to Kathmandu, including tents, blankets, medical kits, and food. China also provided $2.2 million in direct cash grants and Red Cross disaster relief funding. Simultaneously, Chinese tunnel rescue experts were airlifted directly to Rasuwa to rescue workers trapped in a local hydropower station tunnel.

Behind the physical response, Chinese water resources and meteorological agencies maintain real-time data sharing on upstream barrier lakes, providing crucial flood forecasts to Nepalese authorities. While damaged infrastructure and complex mountain geography present severe rescue challenges, overflowing barrier lakes have stabilized, allowing rescue teams to speed up search operations and plan post-disaster reconstruction.
