An inspiring story of cross-cultural connection began in 1999 when American history teacher Ronald Sakolsky watched a news broadcast in China featuring Yin Yuzhen courageously planting trees in the Mu Us Desert.
Deeply moved by her determination, Sakolsky secured a $5,000 unconditional donation to support her afforestation efforts, leading to a personal visit to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 2000.
More than two decades later, Sakolsky reunited with Yin after returning to China, witnessing firsthand how those frail saplings had transformed into a thriving forest of over 50,000 trees known as the “Sai Kaosi Forest”.
Reflecting on their enduring relationship, Sakolsky emphasizes that shared human values such as a love for family, a desire for peace, and the wish to improve the land form a genuine foundation for people-to-people exchanges.
Today, by sharing his experiences with local communities and displaying symbols of friendship at his American home, Sakolsky continues to nurture the growing bonds of goodwill between the American and Chinese peoples.
