To advance low-carbon urban infrastructure under its 15th Five-Year Plan goals, Chinese cities are deploying district cooling solutions tailored to regional resources.
In Xuzhou, residential communities utilize 19°C mine water circulated through existing heating pipes to cool homes without individual air conditioners.
Elsewhere, cities like Wuhan and Nanjing leverage river water thermal energy, while Hangzhou utilizes reclaimed wastewater for industrial park cooling. In Shenzhen’s Qianhai district, the world’s largest urban cooling system operates six central plants, serving over 5.78 million square meters to significantly lower refrigerant usage and power consumption.
