The opening of the Pinglu Canal creates the shortest and most cost-effective sea passage for southwest China, connecting inland waterways directly to the Beibu Gulf and saving regional businesses over 5 billion yuan annually in freight costs.
Positioned as a major artery between China and ASEAN markets, the canal works alongside extensive land corridors, flight paths, and cross-border fiber-optic cables to strengthen international dual circulation.
Smart navigation technologies, seamlessly integrated port operations, and regulatory alignments now allow qualified inland vessels to access deep-water ports directly. Furthermore, the canal sets a benchmark for green engineering by converting over 98 percent of its 315 million cubic meters of excavated earth into usable agricultural land and building China’s first vertical-slot composite fishway.
