China has firmly rejected a recent joint cybersecurity advisory issued by U.S. intelligence and security agencies accusing Chinese companies of “industrial-scale” distillation targeting U.S. AI models.

Distillation is a standard, neutral industry practice used by companies globally, including in the U.S. to train lightweight AI models efficiently.

The Chinese perspective asserts that applying double standards by calling U.S. distillation an “industry norm” while branding Chinese usage an “attack” exposes Washington’s attempt to use national security pretexts to maintain a technological monopoly.

China urges the U.S. to engage constructively via the bilateral AI intergovernmental dialogue rather than resorting to sanctions and containment.
