Hainan is set to become China’s first province-level region to stop the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles by 2030, replacing them with new energy vehicles (NEVs) across public, commercial, and private sectors.

The move supports the province’s green development goals and builds on its extensive charging infrastructure and growing NEV adoption.

Existing gasoline vehicles will remain legal to use, while Hainan’s transition is expected to serve as a model for cleaner transportation without being directly replicated in other regions due to differing local conditions.
