China’s economy grew 4.7 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2026, with GDP reaching 69.57 trillion yuan. Summer grain production exceeded 150 million tons for the first time, while total imports and exports surpassed 25 trillion yuan, setting a new record for the period.

The country’s steady performance was driven by strong exports, technological innovation, and rising domestic demand despite global economic uncertainties. Exports of electric vehicles, ships, and integrated circuits continued to expand, while emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and the digital economy became major contributors to growth.

China also recorded breakthroughs in supercomputing, semiconductor technology, and aerospace, with new growth drivers contributing more than 40 percent of economic expansion. Officials say continued reforms, deeper industrial integration, and international cooperation are supporting the country’s transition toward higher-quality, innovation-driven development.
